What you should do

# 1. Post a blog 3 times a week (M, W & F) of at least 200 words. In your blogs you could:

-describe something you learned

-explain something that surprised you

-give an update about stuff you're working on

-explain how you solved a problem

-tell a cool story

Also include images, sounds or video from your project.

# 2. Respond thoughtfully to another blogger's posts on this site. Post 1 of these response-blogs per week (200 or more words each).

Each of you is expected to contribute to this blog--even if you're working with another student or with a group.

I'm really looking forward to following your project via your postings! Have fun!

And the building begins

Today was our first day of working with lumber and saws and all of the other things a person would imagine when thinking of building a shed.  Last week (Wednesday, Thursday, Friday) seemed to last forever because I was anticipating the building process so much.  Not that the internships weren't enjoyable, but I was definitely looking forward to actually building the shed.  Last week was a lot of learning and preparation.  The two "internships" we had were not typical internships.  Wednesday and Thursday were spent on construction sites, learning the ropes of building.  We learned how to read and create a blueprint, how to create a sturdy base to our shed, and a lot of little tips that will be helpful later in life.  Almost everyone we talked to though had the same thing to say: stay in school.  Most guys said that their biggest mistake was not going to college.  We met many guys that knew more about construction that I thought was possible.  I thought I knew a decent amount about building and stuff of that nature but these guys showed me how much of a novice I really was.  Friday was a little more of what I expected, but still not satisfying.  The four of us drove to Lowe's to buy all of the supplies we would need to complete the floor, including lumber, concrete, screws, and so on.  As we paid and approached my silverado with all $500 dollars of supplies, we realized the lumber was way too long to fit in the bed, so we had to leave it there and I went back on Sunday to pick it up with my mom in a friend's conversion van.  We still struggled to fit it all.  And today, Monday, we finally got our hands dirty.  Today we dug holes with a post hole digger, leveled off the posts, and then poured cement to keep them in place.  It sounds simple, but you and I both know it is much more complicated than it sounds.  "The Summer Hits of the 90's" playlist definitely helped the painful time go quicker though.  Overall the project is off to a great start and the anticipation of the final project continues to grow!
