What you should do

# 1. Post a blog 3 times a week (M, W & F) of at least 200 words. In your blogs you could:

-describe something you learned

-explain something that surprised you

-give an update about stuff you're working on

-explain how you solved a problem

-tell a cool story

Also include images, sounds or video from your project.

# 2. Respond thoughtfully to another blogger's posts on this site. Post 1 of these response-blogs per week (200 or more words each).

Each of you is expected to contribute to this blog--even if you're working with another student or with a group.

I'm really looking forward to following your project via your postings! Have fun!

First Couple Days at POA

For the first week of my senior project I am working at the Pediatrics of Akron (POA) office at Children’s Hospital.  When I first arrived, everyone was very welcoming and open to my project because that is how their practice is and of course, it benefits them as well as my project; thankfully, this friendliness has lasted.
In order to establish the effectiveness of the doctor’s and the nurse practitioner, my sponsor and I created a survey for parents to fill our at the end of their visits that hopefully effectively evaluates their communication. In the survey (attached at the end), it asks the age of the child and if the visit was a check-up or a sick visit as well as evaluating communication.

Although this seems fairly simple, just having parents fill out a survey along with the rest of their paperwork at the end of their visit, it’s not as easy as it seems. For example, not all the parents that comes into the office want to fill out a two-minute survey or have the time to fill out the survey. In this situation, there is really no solution. We offer for them to mail the survey back to my dad’s P.O. box but honestly they really just don’t want the hassle of having to fill out the survey.  So far, in the past two days, I have gotten 17 surveys which is really good, since Wednesdays are slow days and I had a doctor's appointment yesterday coincidentally with POA.
Anyway, my project is going very well and it has been a very enjoyable experience. It will be sad to be done at POA next Wednesday but I am excited to work with a vet as well.

  1. Hi Alisha-I'm really glad to hear you are having a great experience. I can certainly understand not wanting to fill out a survey, particularly with a sick child to deal with!
