Due to fear of poor weather later this week, we adjusted our schedule and used today to lay out the foundation for the shed. The success of the shed and its ability to survive during future years will depend on today. From precise measurements, to aligned holes, to level rods, all will dictate whether the shed remains sturdy in years to come. That being said, it was very exciting and fun to finally start building. Getting to Wyatt's house, we faced our first issue when a post hole digger broke. While there was a second to use, we found that it would be best to go to Lowe's and get another in order to ensure efficient use of time. After a couple hours of digging, we ended digging the holes just in time for lunch. While I thought that it was very difficult, this turned out to be the easy part of the day. After a delicious turkey and ham sandwich, we were forced to cement the posts. Using 11 80 pound bags of concrete and a lot of water, it took us a few difficult hours to pour the concrete into the post holes. Zach diligently shoveled the concrete in water in order to assure that it wouldn't dry, while Wyatt and Henry focused on alignment of the post holes and how leveled the posts were. I tried to help where possible, but tried more than anything not to mess anything up. After a long and difficult day of work, I am looking forward to building off the base tomorrow before going to the Racino on Wednesday.
What you should do
# 1. Post a blog 3 times a week (M, W & F) of at least 200 words. In your blogs you could:
-describe something you learned
-explain something that surprised you
-give an update about stuff you're working on
-explain how you solved a problem
-tell a cool story
Also include images, sounds or video from your project.
# 2. Respond thoughtfully to another blogger's posts on this site. Post 1 of these response-blogs per week (200 or more words each).
Each of you is expected to contribute to this blog--even if you're working with another student or with a group.
I'm really looking forward to following your project via your postings! Have fun!
Great stories, Eric. Thanks for adding the pictures.
