The first couple days of project have been quite interesting to say the least. After visiting construction sites the first two days of project, Eric, Wyatt, Zach, and I have learned quite a bit about the entire construction process as a whole. We have learned how to decipher blueprints, talked to professionals about what they are doing exactly, and have received help about our shed. Especially during our internship at Parma the first day of project, the man we talked to really helped lay out the shed we are going to make. He gave us ideas about the roof, how we should make the floor, window suggestions, and even began sketching out a very basic blueprint to which we have added to. On Friday, we went to Lowe's to buy materials we will need to build the floor of the shed. After buying nearly 50 pieces of various sized wood and other materials, we tried loading it on Wyatt's truck, but his truck was a bit too small. So, we had to unload the wood, haul it back inside (and it was not an easy ride- the cart must have weighed a couple hundred pounds and is pictured below), and returned to get it today. After a multiple hour long ordeal, we left Lowe's, and concluded our first very successful week of Project.
What you should do
# 1. Post a blog 3 times a week (M, W & F) of at least 200 words. In your blogs you could:
-describe something you learned
-explain something that surprised you
-give an update about stuff you're working on
-explain how you solved a problem
-tell a cool story
Also include images, sounds or video from your project.
# 2. Respond thoughtfully to another blogger's posts on this site. Post 1 of these response-blogs per week (200 or more words each).
Each of you is expected to contribute to this blog--even if you're working with another student or with a group.
I'm really looking forward to following your project via your postings! Have fun!

ReplyDeleteHenry, this sounds really interesting! I think that you guys will have a great experience building this shed. It will also help you learn about building in general. I think that the coolest thing you mentioned in your blog was about sketching blueprints. Obviously for a shed it has to be very basic but once you know how you could sketch blueprints for all kinds of cool buildings! It must have been an interesting experience to buy all the supplies because you have to be relatively on point because you can’t buy different sizes of wood or nails. I was shocked to hear that Wyatt’s truck was too small for all of your supplies because it is so big! I think that the most difficult part of the shed will be building the roof, because I would think it has to be the sturdiest part of the shed. I think that you guys will have a lot of success and I can’t wait to come visit the shed!
